Nodar Macharashvili's historical novel Avi Musaifi explores the life of one of Georgia's most beloved yet tragically fated kings, Erekle II, and the politically tumultuous era he endured. The stage adaptation and direction of the play by the same name, presented by the Tbilisi Youth Theater, is the work of Dimitri Khvtisiashvili. This marks the first attempt to bring a novel of this historical-artistic genre to the Georgian stage. The play captures the historical upheavals of Erekle II's time, reflecting, to some extent, the harsh realities of contemporary Georgia. Themes of love and hate, loyalty and betrayal, disillusionment and hope, war, struggle, intrigue, patriotism, morality, and enduring values are woven throughout.
