About the Performance

Tbilisi’s #1 matchmaker - Khanuma - is Avksenti Tsagareli’s most famous character, whose story has captivated Georgian and international audiences since 1882.

 

The plot unfolds in Tbilisi as Prince Vano Phantiasvili plans to marry his “chosen one,” the daughter of a wealthy Armenian merchant, Sona. The story intensifies when it is discovered that Sona has been promised to Vano’s brother, Kote. With colorful urban life, distinctive characters, and a unique setting, director Otar Katamadze and the theater troupe transport the audience to the vibrant, diverse city of Tbilisi at the end of the 19th century.
