This year, the festival presents Maja Kleczewska’s new, shocking, and Exquisitely poetic staging - "The Survivors", featuring a monumental monodrama by Agnieszka Przepiórska.
Kleczewska never shies away from difficult, traumatic themes - this performance tells the story of Irenka K., an elderly woman living in the Ochota district of Warsaw. After eighty years of silence, she dares to speak out for the first time and reveal to the world the hell she endured at the Zieleniak transit camp during World War II.
Back then, the area was controlled by the executioners of SS RONA - permanently drunk sadists who raped and mercilessly tortured women and girls night after night. The moans and screams echoing from the square stopped only when a deathly silence consumed the victims. Irena carried this crushing trauma for decades, and now she takes the audience back into that carved-out hell.
