The Night and Parrot

Tamaz Badzhagua wrote the monologue “Night and the Parrot” nearly forty years ago. In it, he seemingly foresaw the struggles, pain, and descent into madness of his own generation — young men aged 20–25, left alone, idle, and without a place in the world.

 

Fifteen years ago, director Dimitri Khvtisiashvili, together with actor Duta Skhirtladze, staged this play. Today, fifteen years later, this story is told with great empathy by Nika Faikridze.

 

The performance portrays how a person loses human dignity, how others betray him, how he betrays himself, and how he falls to the point of needing to kill the “rats” that have become his enemies every day. Through this, he not only seeks revenge against a treacherous wife but also attempts to restore his own honor.
