Psychology contains a paradox: it is possible to long for a place you have never seen with your own eyes.

“I want to tell you about my Abkhazia — about Hotel Georgia.”

“Hotel Georgia” was a temporary shelter for people displaced from Abkhazia. For years, it became a place that held their waiting, longing, and love for a lost home. They spent half of their lives hoping to return. They raised their children with that hope and passed on everything they remembered.

The play’s central character, Tako, belongs to the generation born after the loss of Abkhazia — a generation whose idea of homeland has been shaped through other people’s stories, memories, and imagination.

Together with the audience, Tako returns to her own past, searching for the details that have been lost or forgotten — everything she associates with Abkhazia. As she searches, a fundamental question emerges: Where do real memories end and imagination begin?

The audience enters Tako’s memory and travels with her into the past.

The play explores a profound question: Can you long for a place you have never seen? Can someone else’s memories become your own? And what happens when the living witnesses are no longer there — when their voices fall silent, their faces fade, and their stories risk being forgotten?

In the play, history continues to exist even after those who experienced it firsthand are gone. It survives in those who listened, those who remembered, and those who rebuilt a lost homeland within their own imagination.

“Hotel Georgia” is a story about a generation that inherited the desire to return to Abkhazia — as a memory, as a longing, and as a hope.
