Fire

“The Fire” is a play based on real events that tells a tragic story from Georgia’s recent history.

The play follows Neli and her family, a collective representation of all those Georgians who were forced to leave their homes in Abkhazia and became displaced persons in their own country.

Neli fights for survival, for her children’s future, and for her husband, who remained in Sukhumi and whose fate she knows nothing about. She believes that suffering does not mean defeat, and that hope will give her the strength to believe that one day she, too, will return home.

But unexpectedly, her husband returns to his family — broken, disillusioned, and confused.

Now it is Neli’s turn to carry the weight of a painful recent history on her shoulders, while holding on to one enduring hope: that one day, we will once again sleep peacefully in our own home.
