This year, the festival presents the triumph of the Akko International Festival for Alternative Theatre - a production that won awards in 6 different categories in 2025!

 

A loving woman sets out on a journey to find a cure for her husband, who has returned from war dark, distant, and changed. Inspired by an ancient Zen folktale and the aesthetics of minimalist Japanese puppetry, this story comes to life on stage with sincere, deeply human vulnerability.

 

Behind the folktale, the real, personal drama of actress Dana unfolds before the audience: her partner Gabriel is himself a combat veteran coping with post-traumatic stress disorder, seated among the audience during the performance. This is a rare and poignant theatrical exploration of secondary trauma - the invisible, heavy psychological toll carried daily by the loved ones of trauma survivors.
