About the Performance:
In 1946, in Nuremberg, the chief conductor of the Berlin State Orchestra, Wilhelm Furtwängler, is on trial. Deborah Arnold attempts to investigate the past of the famous German conductor, Dr. Furtwängler. The interrogation room becomes a battleground for different ideologies: Is it possible to separate art from politics? Can one live and work peacefully after shaking hands with the devil? Can music liberate the human soul? Ronald Harwood’s compelling play raises these and many other important questions, though finding the answers is not straightforward.
