In a world where identity can be appropriated, duplicated, and manipulated, Anfitrione transforms the ancient Roman comedy into a striking contemporary reflection on authenticity, memory, and the fragile boundaries between appearance and truth. Jupiter descends among mortals disguised as Amphitryon, blurring the distinction between original and copy, reality and illusion, while comedy gradually reveals its unsettling proximity to tragedy.
Teresa Ludovico approaches the classical text not as an archaeological monument but as a living dramatic organism. Her adaptation uncovers the timeless theatrical paradox already contained within Plautus: the coexistence of the comic and the terrifying, where laughter emerges from the deepest uncertainty about human existence. Identity, social roles, power, and desire become fluid territories in which every certainty dissolves.
