About the Performance:

 

“As long as we are alive, nothing is too late. It’s just that right now everything in your head is in chaos. You and I will put everything in its place, we will sort it out… we will clean it, clear it… and if something is unnecessary, we will throw it away, and what will remain is what matters most — you and me.

Just look: for you and me to meet, so many things had to happen in the world — planetary catastrophes… the Russian Revolution… first Lenin, then Stalin, the repressions began, and because of that you did not return to the Soviet Union; Hitler had to appear in Germany; in Berlin, on the square in front of the opera house, my books were burned… I became an émigré and ended up here… so many horrors happened, so many tragedies… and finally, we met each other…”

Great minds commit no fewer foolish acts, make no fewer mistakes in personal relationships, suffer no less and feel no less pain, and they, too, are ready to give up everything for the happiness of a loved one — because great minds have more to lose, they feel a greater responsibility for improving the well-being of humanity, and yet, despite all this, they are still ready to sacrifice everything for the sake of the person they love.
