Museum of Religion
The Religion Museum, established in 2004, is part of the LEPL Ajara Museum Group and is the only museum of religion in Georgia. Following a complete rehabilitation in 2023, the museum reopened with a fully renewed interior and a rich exposition.
For centuries, the Ajara region stood at the crossroads of civilizations, empires, and cultures. The museum reflects this rich multicultural history, ethnic diversity, and local traditions of tolerance.
The museum features archaeological artifacts related to the pagan pantheon, ritual objects, books, and clergy vestments of Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam, unique icons, sculptures and bas-reliefs, a 19th-century urban development plan of Batumi and models of religious buildings, archival photos, and artifacts depicting recent history.
Guided tours are available in Georgian and Russian. The space is equipped with QR codes and bilingual informational texts. Exploring the diverse artifacts on display highlights the ethnic and religious diversity, tolerant nature, and multiculturalism of our country and region.
The Religion Museum is located in Batumi, Tamari Settlement (adjacent to Tamar Mepe Avenue). Working hours: daily from 10:00 to 18:00.
