The action is set in the 1940s, during the Japan-China war. "Laughter Academy" is a comedy that explores the conflict between the "official world" and the individual creator. The play features two main characters: an official and a playwright, each championing their own cause and principles. Over time, these seemingly opposite characters develop a friendship and become collaborators.

Koki Mitani - Playwright

Koki Mitani is a contemporary Japanese playwright, screenwriter, and director. He graduated from the theater department of Nihon University's Arts Faculty in 1961. While still a student, he and his friends founded the theater troupe "Tokyo Funny Boys," which gained popularity in Japan for its unique comedic performances and received critical acclaim. Mitani writes plays, scripts, directs, and makes films. "Laughter Academy" (the basis for the play "Raspberry") was originally written as a radio play before being adapted for the stage. Today, it is performed in theaters around the world and remains highly popular.
