Maxim Sukhanov in the play by Maxim Didenko «Kremulator»
Based on a novel by Sasha Filipenko
The performance “Kremulator” is an independent theatrical project carried out in Berlin by Russian theater figures who worked on the largest Russian stages before the war, and now they all met in Berlin and do not want to simply disappear into the new cultural landscape without a trace. "The Cremulator" is the first production of the novel of the same name by the Belarusian-Swiss writer Sasha Filipenko, written on the basis of the interrogation protocols of the director of the first crematorium in the USSR.
The main character is a White Guard officer, Pyotr Nesterenko, who, after the October Revolution, goes all the way of Russian emigration: from Constantinople to Belgrade and Paris. In Paris, he will enter into a deal with the Soviets and return to his homeland, where a new important position awaits him: the position of director of the first Moscow crematorium. For almost 20 years, Nesterenko officially burned the corpses of ordinary people and representatives of the Soviet elite during the day (for example, he burned Mayakovsky's body), and at night — the corpses of secretly shot “enemies of the people”, This is a story about the manipulation and choice of one's truth, about its burning, distortion and erasure, about emigration and the war of the last century, about death, love and faith.
