We will conclude our Levan Paatashvili retrospective with two films: Lana Gogoberidze’s "Under One Sky" and Nana Jorjadze’s "Robinsonada, or My English Grandfather".
Two distinct directors and cinematic visions come together through the worlds created by Levan Paatashvili’s cinematography.
Under One Sky | Director: Lana Gogoberidze | 1961
Composed of three novellas set in 1921, 1941, and 1961, the film brings together stories of people living in different historical periods. Against a backdrop of love, personal choices, and historical change, it follows the fates of three women, connecting their emotions and experiences across time.
Robinsonada, or My English Grandfather | Director: Nana Jorjadze | 1986
Set in 1920s Georgia, the film tells the story of a romance between an English engineer and a Georgian woman. Cultural differences, the historical setting, and eccentric characters shape a humorous tale that explores not only love but also the experience of being an outsider and the contradictions of the era. In 1987, the film won the Caméra d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
